I read about Jonathan Franzen new upcoming book, Freedom, and promptly went to my bookshelf where I dug around until I found The Corrections. I never did finish The Corrections, never managed to get past the talking poo. But hell that was 2001 – almost 10 years ago, well, nine to be exact – and since then it’s been repeatedly cited as one of the best novels ever. So I feel compelled to read it. And since Freedom sounds like something I’m going to want to read I feel like I should readThe Correctionss first.
Despite the fact that I just bought The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. And despite the fact that Infinite Jest is still sitting on my bedside table, laughing at me.
Books can be cruel like that.
